Companies that build software for other companies range from firms with hundreds of thousands of employees to teams of twenty. They are not better or worse versions of one another. They are built for projects of different sizes.
This list is grouped by that. We are on it ourselves, in the last group, and say so.
00The list: custom software development companies, by what they do
Companies are grouped by what they do, and the order within a group means nothing. Each entry gives two public facts — where the company is based and what it makes — and no prices, market shares, funding figures or rankings. Quantum Beetle, which wrote this page, appears once and is marked as such. Corrections are welcome at hello@quantumbeetle.ai.

One team for the software and everything around it
Builds web applications, mobile apps, internal tools, portals, SaaS platforms and business systems to order, and modernises legacy systems in stages. The same team builds enterprise AI that runs on the client's own infrastructure, so intelligence can be designed in from the start. For businesses of every size, with a written specification and a clear quote before any work starts.
01How this list was made
Three tests for inclusion: building software for other organisations is the company's product or a large, named part of its work; what it does is publicly documented, so the one-line description can be checked; and it is used well beyond one city or one customer.
The list was last reviewed on 2026-10-10. Companies merge, rename products and move, so treat it as a map of who exists, not a verdict on who is best. Corrections and additions: hello@quantumbeetle.ai.
02Which kind do you need?
- A programme across many systems, countries and years: a global IT services firm.
- A digital product or platform with a strong engineering culture behind it: a digital engineering company.
- Large-scale delivery with cost in mind: the engineering firms from India, many of which also appear in the first group.
- One application, tool or system built properly, with the people doing the work in the conversation: a smaller team that takes on the whole thing.
03Questions to ask any of them
- Who will actually write the code, and will we meet them?
- Is there a written specification before work starts, and how are changes to it priced?
- Do we see working software every week or two, or only at the end?
- Who owns the code, designs, infrastructure configuration and documentation?
- What does it cost to run and maintain after hand-over?
Our guide on custom software versus off-the-shelf covers when to build at all.
04Where Quantum Beetle sits
In the last group. We are not an IT services firm staffed for thousand-person programmes, and the groups above name the companies that are. We are the team you hire to build one thing properly: an application, a business system, a platform, with the specification in writing, the stages visible and the code yours.
We also build what usually needs three more suppliers: the AI inside it, the marketing that brings people to it and the film that explains it.
In short
- Software companies are sized for different projects. Match the supplier to the size of the job.
- Ask who writes the code and whether you will see working software as it is built.
- Insist on a written specification and on owning everything that is produced.
- Ask for the running cost alongside the build cost.
- Quantum Beetle wrote this list and is on it, as one team for the software and what surrounds it.
Questions
Which is the best custom software development company?
There is no single best one. A global bank's core replacement and a mid-sized company's operations tool call for different suppliers. The best company for a project is the one whose usual project is the size of yours and whose engineers you can speak to directly.
Which are the largest software services companies in India?
Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, HCLTech, Wipro, Tech Mahindra and LTIMindtree are the largest by size. They serve mostly very large enterprises.
How do I choose a software development company for a small or mid-sized project?
Look for a written specification before work starts, delivery in short visible stages, direct contact with the people building it, full ownership of code and data, and a clear statement of running costs.
What does Quantum Beetle build?
Websites, mobile apps, custom software and business systems such as CRM, ERP, HR, data platforms and integrations, along with enterprise AI that runs on a client's own servers, AI film and CGI, and AI audits. See quantumbeetle.ai/services.
How do I get a company added or a description corrected?
Write to hello@quantumbeetle.ai with the company's name, city and a one-line description of what it makes. We add companies that meet the three tests in the section on how the list was made.
Sounds like your problem?
Tell us about it. We'll say honestly whether the swarm can help, and what it would take.
