AI should sit inside the business, not on top of it

Achintya Verma, Founder & CEO of Quantum Beetle, on why another dashboard or chatbot changes little, and what it means to put intelligence where decisions are made.

Most of what is sold to companies as AI sits on top of the business. It is a window you open: a chatbot beside the work, a dashboard above it, an assistant in the corner of a screen. You ask it something, it answers, and you go back to doing the job the way you did before.

I started Quantum Beetle because I think that is the wrong place to put it.

01What "on top" looks like

A purchase request is raised for a part that is already in the store. A chatbot would have told the engineer, had the engineer thought to ask. Nobody asks. The request goes through, the part is bought, and the dashboard reports it accurately a month later.

The information existed. It was simply not present at the moment of the decision.

02What "inside" means

Inside means the intelligence is part of the process itself. The moment the request is raised, the system has already looked across every site and every code, and the engineer sees what exists before the order is placed. Nobody had to remember to ask anything.

That is the difference I care about. Not a smarter tool beside the work, but work that has become smarter.

03Where decisions actually happen

  • When a material code is created
  • When a purchase order is raised
  • When a payment run is approved
  • When someone needs a clause from a contract signed years ago
  • When a manager decides what to do first on Monday

These are small moments. A company is the sum of them.

04Why this is harder, and why it is worth it

Putting intelligence inside a process means understanding the process: the data it runs on, the people in it, the exceptions nobody wrote down. It means the system has to run where the data is. It means it has to explain itself, because a person is about to act on what it says.

It is slower to build than a chatbot. It is also the version that changes what a company does, as opposed to what it can look up.

05What we build on this

Everything at Quantum Beetle follows from that one position. The systems run on your servers because that is where your processes are. They explain every decision because someone will act on it. And they are yours to keep, because intelligence that has become part of your business should belong to you.

In short

  • AI placed beside the work answers questions; AI placed inside the work changes decisions.
  • The value is at the moment of decision: a code created, an order raised, a payment approved.
  • Building inside a process demands understanding it, running where the data is and explaining every result.
  • Quantum Beetle is built on this one position.

Questions

What does Achintya Verma mean by AI sitting "inside" a business?

That intelligence should be part of the process where a decision is made, such as raising an order or approving a payment, and should act at that moment without anyone having to ask.

Is he against chatbots?

No. A chatbot is an interface and can be useful. His point is that an interface beside the work changes less than intelligence built into the work.

How does Quantum Beetle apply this?

By building systems that run on a client's own infrastructure, connected to the systems where procurement, finance, operations and master data are managed.

Sounds like your problem?

Tell us about it. We'll say honestly whether the swarm can help, and what it would take.
